TELEVISION FEATURE: POWER BOOK III: RAISING KANAN, SEASON 3
Production Des.: Tania Bijlani | Art Dir.: Tadd Kroneck & Brian P. Goodwin | Lead Set Dec.: Alex Mazur & Anya Lebow
The entire team at Power Book III: Raising Kanan holds a special place in my heart. This production fosters an environment of helping its artists grow by lifting them up.
As an Assistant Art Director, I worked on both location sets and stage builds. Although a newcomer on Season 3, my work still spanned fresh sets as well as revisits to sets from previous seasons.
I had the pleasure of “owning” the Exterior Strip Mall set, which also held Interior Raq’s Salon and Interior Dry Cleaner. Season 3 was the inaugural season for all of these, so I got to site survey an entire active strip mall, draw up the plans for gutting and renovating the salon, and maintain this property for several episodes. The most unique part of this set was for Ep. 5, when we needed to create vandalism and broken windows on the storefronts—in such a way that the real life stores could be back in business the following day. The featured build here shows Semrad’s wonderfully gritty 90s apartment.
THEATRE FEATURE: PETER PAN AT EMERSON JSHS
Dir. & Choreo.: Bill & Lisa Ullman | TD: David Monchino | Lighting Des.: Judy A. Kagel
What a pleasure it was to design Peter Pan and witness the cast literally and figuratively soaring!
Lighting Designer Judy Kagel and I were great friends at our alma mater, SUNY Purchase, but we never got to work on a show together. When Peter Pan was in need of a Set Designer, we found our moment.
In a way, this was a return to my roots. I got my own “start” on my high school’s stage crew, deeply inspired by our advisor Chantale Bourdages (USA 829 Scenic Artist). With high school and college, theatre was my whole life for 8 years. However, in recent years I’ve chosen other paths, only returning to theatre for the occasional painting gig.
Designing for theatre again, and more importantly, teaching and encouraging students in the same environment in which I initially found my voice, was a wave of nostalgic joy.
We took a classic, painterly storybook approach to the set, allowing the student crew’s creativity to shine. [[ UPDATED PHOTOS COMING SOON ]]

EVENT FEATURE: SAKS FIFTH AVENUE 95TH ANNIVERSARY CAROUSEL POP-UP
Company: Symmetry Event Solutions | Mktg & Prod.: 160over90 | Co-Designers: Caleb Levengood & John Romeo
We did so many cool things in my full-time era at Symmetry, it’s hard to pick a feature!
This carousel was an all-hands-on-deck feat, with all 3 of our staff designers taking on a role. It was a pop-up experience in Manhattan during Fashion Week 2019, celebrating 95 years of Saks Fifth Avenue.
The lipstick throne, the rideable horses with custom bubble clouds, and the ticket booth were my part in designing. As a rare treat, I also got to jump in with the shop! The shoe-bench and subway car were designed by my dear colleague Caleb, but I assisted in applying the shoelace fabric to the Saks logo and painting the leather subway handle.
I named the horses Geoff, Linda, Chesnut, and Humphrey, and was sure to include that on my official technical drawings with their specs.
